Faith and Works

March 25, 2012 Speaker: Series: James

Passage: Romans 4:1–8

Point # 1 Faith excludes boasting (verses 1-2)

Point # 2 Faith is necessary to preserve grace (verses 3-8)

Justification: The means by which a guilty sinner is reconciled to a holy God. Justification is the opposite of condemnation.

Justification consists of two parts:

a) The forgiveness of sin.
b) The imputation of Jesus’ righteousness to the sinner.

Synergism – the (false) view that God and humans work together, each contributing their part to accomplish salvation in and for the individual.

There is no equation of works + faith = salvation in the bible. The bible teaches us faith in Jesus + nothing = justification.
