The Peace of Genuine Wisdom

May 27, 2012 Speaker: John Bell Series: James

Passage: James 3:13–3:18

Point # 1 Wise persons (Christians) demonstrate their wisdom through their gospel-transformed life, by deeds done in humility (13).

Point # 2 Christians must avoid “worldly” wisdom (14-16).

i. They must not boast or lie about bitter, jealous attitudes among believers (14).
ii. The source of this so-called “wisdom” is the world, the flesh, and the devil (15).
iii. Such attitudes indicate a swamp evil lurking beneath a Christian veneer (16).

Point # 3 Christians should embrace heavenly wisdom (17-18).

i. True wisdom must reflect moral purity (17).
ii. True wisdom places special priority on peacemaking (18).
