who we are

Welcome to New City Baptist Church! We are a group of Christians committed to living to the glory of God in the heart of Toronto's downtown core. We have a passionate desire to tell others the good news of God’s forgiveness of sin through the sacrifice of his Son, Jesus Christ.

Leadership Team:
John Bell: A graduate of Toronto Baptist Seminary, John is originally from the Thousand Islands, but has lived in downtown Toronto since 2004. He is an American film and WWII history buff. He is also a Led Zeppelin and Beatles fan and enjoys playing the drums. In the little free time he has, John is trying to write a play.

Ian Clary: Ian graduated from Toronto Baptist Seminary with a master of divinity in 2008 and is currently enrolled in a master of theology with the hopes of furthering his studies by pursuing a doctorate in church history. Fishing, reading, music and movies are Ian’s passions. He loves any musical genre from indie rock to blue grass, punk to jazz. Ian lives with his wife Vicky in downtown Toronto and works at Crux Book store. When he can, he blogs at RearViewMirror.

what to expect

NCBC's corporate worship services are a blend of casual and formal, contemporary and traditional. The music we sing to God and to each other spans all of church history, including songs written today.

Our services typically last 70 minutes. Included in the service is a time of welcome and weekly announcements. This is usually followed by worship through song, prayer, and reading the bible together. This is followed by a sermon based upon a text taken from the bible. There is a time for mingling after the service, where coffee and light refreshment will be served.

It is our desire to not only worship God through our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ but to foster an environment where critical questions are freely asked and where people promoting worldviews contrary to the teachings of the bible are tolerated with love and patience – albeit, at NCBC we worship the God of the bible and no other. Where ever you are on your journey of faith – even if you are very sceptical – we would love to have you with us. That is why we are here.
